From the book "A 200TH ANNIVERSARY HISTORY OF NOBLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (1796-1996)" by Robert G. Larimer, page 59,
Reverend Calvin, a long lanky man with a high starched collar, was called as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in 1912. It was his custom to conclude a pastoral visit with a prayer, a long one for which he and the family kneeled. One day he called at the Shrum home at the top of Noble Street. After he started his prayer, a young Ralph Roy yelled loudly for his friend, Frank Shrum, to come out and catch his pig, which had gotten loose. Reverend Calvin prayed, Ralph yelled, but no one moved a muscle until the "Amen".

"My mom was a wonderful person as she took care of her father for some time and also took in her sister, Helen, so that Helen's sons could finish their college. My father was a saint for agreeing to take them into his house. I don't know of many men who were as gracious and patient as was my father to permit mom to take in her family and take away from her own family. Mom told me that her father came to her in bad health in Clarksburg, WV when I was a baby in the '40s. She got him back on his feet and he then went to Florida and lived in Bradenton for 31 years until the neighbors called my mother and told her that Grandpa's hearing was so bad he was walking in front of semi-trucks on Route. 41! Mom flew down and brought him to Wheeling and I am sure Grandpa felt he had come north to die, but mom took such good care of him, he lasted for several years. When we would come in from New Jersey with all our boys, he would tell me that from the neck down he was great, but from the neck up... "No good". Grandpa loved my father and my father loved him. Dad took him for drives even when he became incontinent just to get him out of the house. Can you imagine my mother raising eight children of her own and at various points in her life taking on her father, her sister, and later on, her father again? When I think of it now, it boggles my imagination. Mom was a major-league care-giver."

Joseph "Joe" Reilly
Post-Gazette.com Locals/Neighborhoods/Westmoreland at http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09197/984194-59.stm reported:
Saint Vincent Theatre Director Joe Reilly died June 27 at 64. He touched so many people's lives that it is difficult to assess the impact of his loss.
Along with the Rev. Tom Devereux, a Benedictine monk and Saint Vincent College teacher who died in June 2008, Mr. Reilly had been one of the main forces behind the founding of Saint Vincent Theatre in 1969. He had directed and acted there for more than 40 years.
Mr. Reilly also taught a number of popular courses in theater and film to generations of Saint Vincent students, gave many young student actors their first roles, and served as the head of the school board at Valley School in Ligonier, which his daughters, Colleen and Annie, attended from 1991 to 2006.
But Colleen Reilly said her father, as well as Father Devereux, would have preferred that people focus on the future, not the past.
"We are very [hopeful] that the work they did and the place they created should continue to grow, thrive and continue moving forward," she said.
Ms. Reilly, 34, came to Saint Vincent 13 months ago at her father's invitation to direct "Around the World in 80 Days." She is directing the theater's current production, "Twentieth Century," which will run through Saturday.
She also will direct "Souvenir," which will open next Thursday.
As part of their commitment to continuing Mr. Reilly's work, Colleen and her mother, Patricia Carney Reilly, who will have one of the two roles in "Souvenir," decided to go on with their work for the play.
Mrs. Reilly, who will play Florence Foster Jenkins, said that part of her decision had to do with her sense of "Souvenir" as an unfinished project that she shared with her husband and which he would have wanted to see completed.
"This has been a very hard decision," Mrs. Reilly said. "But we had discussed our ideas with each other about the play, and I think this is what he would have wanted me to do."
Mrs. Reilly noted that service to a larger goal had always been important to her husband -- as a seminarian when he attended Saint Vincent, then as a director there.
"He always wanted everything to serve the play, to serve the work, and he had very little ego when it came to that ideal."
"He didn't care if a play was seen as a 'Joe Reilly' production. He just wanted it to be the best it could be."
Mrs. Reilly added that her first memory of her husband reflected his commitment to putting on good plays.
When she was a student at Seton Hill College, she starred in a production of "West Side Story" at Saint Vincent. She noticed Mr. Reilly, then wearing a black cassock, working with Father Devereux backstage.
"I noticed that his robe had all these small holes, from catching on nails, and paint stains from painting the scenery."
Mr. Reilly graduated from Saint Vincent in 1966 and joined the Army in 1968. By then, Mrs. Reilly said, he had decided not to become a priest and asked to write to her while he was away. They married in 1970.
Michael Reilly, 67, and the elder brother of Mr. Reilly, said that even while growing up in the Sheraden section of Pittsburgh, Mr. Reilly showed a passion for all things theatrical, especially storytelling.
Michael Reilly, 67, and the elder brother of Mr. Reilly, said that even while growing up in the Sheraden section of Pittsburgh, Mr. Reilly showed a passion for all things theatrical, especially storytelling.
Shirley Tannenbaum, of Squirrel Hill, a teacher at Point Park University, said Joe Reilly's sense of humor kept her entertained during the 25 years and 50-plus shows she was in at Saint Vincent that he either directed or performed in.
"We would look forward to breaks so we could hear Joe's stories," she said. "He was a kind, insightful and hysterically funny man."
Colleen Reilly added that her father's kindness and sense of humor sprang from his abiding affection for people.
"He was never showy about it, but he tried to live what he was taught, to do unto others, to be forgiving of people's weaknesses," she said. "He was a man of very, very great faith."
Mrs. Tannenbaum said it was Mr. Reilly's understanding of human frailty that enabled him to bring out poignancy in dramatic plays.
"You'd think comedies would be his strong suit, and he was wonderful with them," she said. "But he could search out the humanity in dramatic characters and really make you feel you'd seen a different side of them."
Colleen Reilly said that although her father had a heart attack in 1998 and was on kidney dialysis, there were no indications before his death that he was seriously ill.
"So it was a shock," she said, and that along with the death of Father Devereux, "we've suffered a series of very great losses."
She said that Saint Vincent has no immediate plans for who might take over for Mr. Reilly.
"It's too soon to start talking about that. We are just focused on finishing the season," Colleen Reilly said.
But some things are certain, she added: Saint Vincent Theatre will continue, and the influence of her father and Father Devereux will be felt there for many more years.
"It will never be the same, but we want to make sure their legacy isn't forgotten. They both loved this theater so much."
