From the book "A 200TH ANNIVERSARY HISTORY OF NOBLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (1796-1996)" by Robert G. Larimer, page 59,
Reverend Calvin, a long lanky man with a high starched collar, was called as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in 1912. It was his custom to conclude a pastoral visit with a prayer, a long one for which he and the family kneeled. One day he called at the Shrum home at the top of Noble Street. After he started his prayer, a young Ralph Roy yelled loudly for his friend, Frank Shrum, to come out and catch his pig, which had gotten loose. Reverend Calvin prayed, Ralph yelled, but no one moved a muscle until the "Amen".

Carnegie Man Arabs' Prisoner
Guerrillas Free Area Physician
A Carnegie-born physician from Uniontown Hospital was released unharmed yesterday near Amman, Jordan, by Arab guerrillas, the Associated Press reported.
He is Dr. William Paul Shrum, 45, who was held captive a week, and then turned over to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry arranged for immediate flight to Beirut, Lebanon. From there, he will go to Athens, where his family is housed in the U.S. Embassy.
Others Freed Earlier
Dr. Shrum, according to Associate Press, was one of 63 foreigners originally held hostage. The others were released within 24 hours, but Dr. Shrum was held for "further interrogation."
The physician's mother, Mrs. Theresa Shrum, of Hickory, Washington County, arrived in Athens last Wednesday, unaware that her son had been held captured.
She had received a letter from the physician a week before her departure, advising her that "it would be a good time to come now because I will be home," according to a sister-in-law, Mrs. A. A. Shrum, of Hickory.
Carnegie Native
Dr. Shrum was burn in Carnegie but attended public school and high school in Uniontown. He then entered Carnegie Institute of Technology and graduated with an engineering degree.
During his college days, he met Eleanor Hall, who lived near Uniontown and was a nurse at Uniontown, and she influenced him to change to medicine. He got his medical degree at the University of Buffalo, married Miss Hall and returned to Uniontown Hospital for his internship in 1954-55.
Then he went to Hayden Lake, Idaho, and remained 14 years in his own clinic before becoming a medical adviser in the U.S. Foreign Service.
