Death of John Millenbaugh

John Millenbaugh died at his home, on East Franklin street, Monday night, at 9:20 o'clock, from asthma. He was born in Prussia, February 26, 1810, and was eighty-five years, nine months and twenty-seven days old, and had been a resident of Huntington for thirty-two years. He was the father of twelve children, four of whom, with the mother, who is eighty-three years old, are left to mourn his death. The children are Ed Millenbaugh, of Albuquerque, N. M.; Mrs. Murphy, of Logansport; Mrs. Fagart, of Connersville and Mrs. Wagner, of this city. The funeral will be held Thursday morning, from the Catholic church.

Huntington Weekly Herald, dated December 27, 1892 reported:

John Millenbaugh Dead

One of the city's oldest residents died Monday at 9 o'clock, in the person of John Millenbaugh of East Franklin street. He was born in Prussia, February 26, 1810, and was eighty-five years, nine months and twenty-seven days old. He was a cooper by trade and worked constantly until about three years ago. He was a robust man, of powerful physique, and only recently did his health fail on account of asthma. The deceased was the father of twelve children, four of whom are living: Ed Millenbaugh, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Murphy, Logansport; Mrs. Figart, Connersville and Mrs. Wagner, this city. The wife survives and is eighty-three years old. The burial occurred from the Catholic church, Thursday morning, and will be the first in the new cemetery.

The Saturday Times, dated october 5, 1907, page 8, column 1, reported:

HAD REACHED ADVANCE AGE OF NINETY-SEVEN

Mrs. Helen Millenbaugh, widow of the late John Millenbaugh, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Wagoner, at Peru, Thursday afternoon at 4:30. She had been in failing health for the last two years, but had only taken her bed seven weeks ago.

Mrs. Millenbaugh was born in Wallen, Prussia, Germany, in 1810. She was a well known and highly respected citizen of Huntington for many years until the death of her husband several years ago. Since then she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wagoner, at Peru. The cause of her death was infirmities of age. She was 97 years of age and was the mother of thirteen children.

She leaves to mourn her loss two children - E. G. Millenbaugh, of Albuquerque, N. M.; and Mrs. A. E. Wagner of Peru. She had fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic church, Rev. Father Miller officiating.

She was buried on 7 Oct 1907 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She was buried at Mount Calvery Cemetery. She really had 12 children according to the 1900 census report.

He appeared on the census on 24 Jun 1870 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. He died on Friday, 5 Sep 1874. The contributory of death was cancer of the stomach.

Huntington Democrat, dated September 10, 1874, reported:

MILLENBACH - On Friday, September 5th, 1874, John A. Millenbach, aged 35 years.

Mr. M has been a sufferer for some time, and his death had been looked for at any day for months. A child died, and was buried at the same time. Last week only his wife was carried to her final repose, and now the husband ant youngest child have followed. Two small childre are left.

He was buried in Mount Calvery Cemetery. This may be the oldest child of John Millenbaugh and Hellen. He had 3 children. This may be the same person as John E. for they both have Margaret and Julia as their children.

He was married to Catherine Elizabeth SCHAEFER. Catherine Elizabeth SCHAEFER was born about 1844 in H. Darmstadt, Germany. She appeared on the census on 24 Jun 1870 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She died on Saturday, 29 Aug 1874. The contributory of death was cholera-morbus caused by caring for her invalid husband.

Indiana Herald, dated September 2, 1874, page 3, column 3, reported:

The wife of John Millenbaugh died suddenly of cholera-morbus, last Saturday morning, after a short illness. Mr. Millenbaugh is confined to his room by disease of a grave character.

Huntington Democrat, dated Thursday, September 3, 1874, page 3, and the Democrat of same date reported:

Mrs. Kate Millenbach, wife of Mr. John A. Millenbach, died on Saturday morning last, aged 35 years. She had been worn down by attendence upon an invalid husband, and the disease of which she was carried off wrought its work quickly.

A bad copy of the Indiana Herald, dated September 9, 1874, page 3, column 2, reported:

Last week we recorded the death from cholera-morbus, of Mrs. John Minnenbaugh, of this city. Her funeral took place on Saturday. Wednesday last an infant child died, and on Thursday death ended the suffering of the unhappy father, who has long been afflicted with an incurable cancerous disease of the stomach. Three little children, the oldest not quite eight years of age, have been orphaned within a period of five days. The case has many ??? and ??????? f??????.

Death of P. F. Feigert.

Peter F. Feigert died at his home in Connersville, Ind., Thursday. Mr. Feigert lived most of his life in this town and county. In an early day he was in the cigar business here, was twice elected Treasurer of this county in the early seventies, and a few years ago conducted a restaurant and cigar stand at Convoy. His nephews, Lewis and Emanuel Feigert, went to Connersville Friday morning to attend the funeral.

Peter Feigert, formerly a resident of this city and county, died Thursday morning at his home in Connersville. He served two terms as County Treasurer and afterwards engaged in the cigar business in Convoy. Lewis and Richard Feigert attended the funeral services, Saturday.

The death of Peter Feigert occurred at Connersville, Ind., last Wednesday at 4 p.m. Chas. Feigert, from near Daisie, and E. K. Kreischer, of this place, left for Connersville Friday. Mr.. Feigert was formerly a cigar manufacturer of this place and at one time was Van Wert county's treasurer.

The cause of death is Angina Pectoris. He was buried in Connersville, Fayette, Indiana. He was buried in Connersville City Cemetery in Section 4, 4E, lot 130. He was a Civil War veteran and was wounded during the conflict. He had manufactured and dealt in cigars and tobacco in Van Wert of Ohio, Huntington of Indiana and Connersville of Indiana. In the Van Wert Weekly Bulletin of October 29 of 1869, it was announced that Mr. P. F. Feigert has opened a Cigar Manufactory and Tobacco Store in the rooms formerly occupied by Geo. Stripe, one door west of the Star Bakery. He was twice elected Treasurer of Van Wert County in the early seventies. He had operated a restaurant and cigar stand in Convoy. In 1899, he had a cigar store on N. Jefferson, Huntington and was living at 63 Matilda. In 1893, he had started a cigar manufacturing business in Connersville and his store was located on East Fifth Street. His popular 5-cent cigar was the Gentel.

Mrs. Harry Bell, of South Briant street, was called to Peru Tuesday because of the death of her aunt Mrs. Kathryne Wagoner. Funeral services will be held in Peru Thursday morning and burial will be in Huntington at Mt. Calvary.

Mrs. Wagoner was 79 years old and was an invalid for the last 18 years. Mr. and Mrs. Wagoner left Huntington about 40 years ago to reside in Peru.

Surviving relatives are Mr. Wagoner, one daughter, Mrs. Otto Schlink, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was buried in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She was buried at Mount Calvery Cemetery.

Daily Democrat, Friday, January 24, 1890, page 3, column 5, reported:

Frank Millenbaugh Dead.

A death occurred this forenoon at ten o'clock that causes a feeling of sorrow in the heart of everybody who knew the victim. Frank Millenbaugh was a universal favorite, bearing a large acquaintance and being well liked by all and to be taken from amongst his friends just in the prime of manhood is a sad happening.

He was thirty-two years old last June. For years past he has been in the throes of dread disease consumption and for the last year has been an invalid. In the hopes of regaining his failing health resorts and been treated by the best of physicians but all with no effect. His death was caused by complete exhaustion as he had not taken food for about two weeks.

The funeral takes place next Sunday, services being held at the Catholic church at 3 o'clock p. m.

He was buried on 26 Jan 1890 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. The funeral services were held at the Catholic church on Sunday, January 26th. He was buried in Mount Calvery Cemetery. He was a barber and single at time of his death.

THIRD GENERATION

Mary Ann MILLENBAUGH was born on 28 Feb 1867 in Indiana.

She was baptized on 3 Mar 1867 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She was baptized at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church as "Maria Anna". The godfather was Edward Millenbach and the godmother was Elizabeth Schafer. Elizabeth may be Catharine's sister. She appeared on the census on 24 Jun 1870 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She died on 11 Jan 1881 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana.

Choked to Death

A strange death occurred on Wednesday evening of last week, three miles west of the city. During the day, Mary Millenbaugh, a girl who lived with Mr. Upheil, had complained of a swelling in her throat, and a physician had examined the same but thought the matter of but little importance. During the night, the girl grew rapidly worse and soon died by strangulation. The deceased was about fourteen years of age, and the funeral were held from the Catholic church on Friday morning last.

The godfather was John Ufheil and the godmother was Margaret Ufheil. She appeared on the census on 2 Jun 1880 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. She was living with her grandfather John Millenbaugh on Court Street. She died in 1945.

Herald Press of Huntington, Indiana, dated Monday, April 2, 1945, reported:

Mrs. Harry D. Bell, 71, died at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Huntington county hospital shortly after being removed from her home where she had been ill since Thursday. She had been in falling health for several years and suffered a heart attack Thursday.

Mrs. Bell was born February 16, 1874 in Huntington to Mr. and Mrs. John Millenbaugh. Her marriage was to Mr. Bell who survives. Six children were born in this union.

Surviving besides the husband are one sone, Howard W. Bell, South Bend, and tow daughters, Mrs. Malcolm Yarger, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Paul E. Kennedy, this city. Three children, Walter, Marshall and Mary Evelyn are dead. Six grandchildren are Nancy, Frederick, Sandra Kay and Pamela Yarger and David Lee and John Charles Kennedy.

Mrs. Bell was a member of the Central Christian church, the Homemakers class, the Maccabees and the Make Merry club.

The body was removed to the Briggs funeral home where friends may call and whee funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday with the Rev. Owen Livengood officiating.

Burial will be at Mr. Hope cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harry D. Bell were hels at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Briggs funeral home with rhe Rev. Owen Livengood officiating.

Mrs. Mark H. Shideler sang with Miss Esther Davis at the organ.

Pallbearers were James Dumbauld, M. O. Hildebrand, John Sheets, Charles MeGrew, H. E. Emery and Henry Grupe.

Burial was at Mr. Hope cemetery.

She was married to Harry D. BELL in 1910 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. Harry D. BELL (son of Wilson BELL) was born on 3 Jan 1873 in New Haven, Indiana. He died on 7 Jan 1948 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.

HARRY D. BELL DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Funeral Services Friday for Retired Grocer

Harry D. Bell, 75, for many years a resident of this city and recently retired after operating a store and filling station at his home at Riverside Drive and Briant street, died at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Lawton sanitarium in Fort Wayne after a serious illness since June, 1947.

Mr. Bell, the last of his family, was born January 3, 1873, at New Haven, the sone of Mrs. and Mrs. Wilson Bell. His marriage was to Margaret Millenbaugh in this city in 1910. The couple were the parents of six children. The wife is dead

Surviving are a son, Howard D. Bell, South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Malcom (Magdalena) Yarger and Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Kennedy, this city, and seven grandchildren, Nancy Yarger, Frederick Yarger, Sandra Yarger, Pamela Yarger, Steven Yarger, David and John Kennedy. Three children, Walter, Marshall and Evelyn and two brothers, Otto and William H. Bell are dead. The latter died New Year's day at his home in Indianapolis.

Mr. Bell was employed for a number of years as chief engineer with the Schaff Brothers piano company of this city and after the company discontinued here he operated the business on Riverside Drive at his home. He retired from business because of failing health. He was a member of the I. O. O. F., the Elks and the Modern Woodmen lodges and the Central Christian church. He was a member of the official board of the church for several years. He was active in Republican politics and served 12 years as a member of the city council.

The body was removed to the Briggs funeral home where friends may call after 7 p. m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Friday at the Briggs chapel with the Rev. Charles I. Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Florence Schlink, 78, a native of Huntington and widow of Otto Schlink, died Saturday in Maderia, Calif., according to word received her with information that the body will be returned for burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Schlink was born August 4, 1884, in Huntington to Austin and Catherine Millenbaugh Wagner. She married Otto Schlink who died a number of years ago. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Peru.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Evelyn) Murphy and Miss Florence M. Schlink, both of Maderia, Calif., and three sons, Otto E. Schlink of Fort Wayne, Paul Schlink of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Donald Schlink of Toledo, Ohio.

The funeral mass was held in California.

The body is being returned to this city and will arrive at 9:52 p.m. Friday by the Erie-Lackawanna railroad. It will be removed to the Kroeger Funeral Home where friends may call Saturday morning and until the hour of the services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. J. H. Roesler officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence M. Schlink were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kroeger Funeral Home, the Rev. Edward Krason officiating.

He graduated in 1925 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. He graduated from Huntington High School. He died on Monday, 22 Dec 1930 in Huntington, Huntington, Indiana.

Herald Press of Huntington, Indiana, dated Tuesday, December 23, 1930, reported:

Funeral services for Walter O. Bell, twenty-five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bell, who died Monday evening at the home of his parents on Riverside Drive and Briant street, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 O'clock at the residence with the Rev. B. F. Cato, pastor of the Central Christian church, in charge.

Mr. Bell had been ailing since January 13 of this year.

Mr. Bell was born May 27, 1905, to Harry and Margaret Bell. Mr. Bell was well known in this city, having lived here practically all of his life. He attendee the city schools and graduated from Huntington high school with the class of 1925.

After his graduation from high school, he worked at the Caswell Runyan factory for two years. The then spent eight months in California, returning later to accept a position with the Capehart manufacturing company of Fort Wayne. He was employed with the latter company when he became ill.

Mr. Bell was a member of the Kappa Alpha Phi fraternity and of the Central Christian church.

He is survived by his father and mother, one brother, Howard Bell of South Bend, and two sisters Magdalena Yarger and Dorothy Bell, both of Huntington.

Burial will take place at the Mt. Hope cemetery.

Malcolm (Tete) Yarger, 75, 551 E. Washington St. died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday (May 23, 1981) at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital following a two-week illness.

Mr. Yarger was a life-long resident of Huntington, and as the owner and operator of Yarger's Dry Cleaning and Pressing, 26 S. Jefferson St., for 46 years, retiring in 1973. He also worked as a movie projectionist in Fort Wayne and Huntington from 1927 through 1953.

He was a former member of the Amity Lodge No. 483, F. and A.M. the Shrine Club, and South Side Business's Association.

Mr. Yarger was born Oct. 6, 1905, in Huntington, to Elmer E. and Loretta (Slusser) Yarger. His marriage to Magdalena Bell on Aug. 10, 1927, in Huntington, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Dr. Frederick Yarger, Natick, Mass., Stephen Michael Yarger, Huntington, and Richard Ellsworth Yarger, Huntington; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Nancy) Paulin, Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Gardner, Pensacola, Fla., and Mrs. Lino (Pamela) Wiseman, Evansville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Yarger and Francis Yarger, both of Marion; and three sisters, Mrs Berniece Hunn, San Bernadino, Calif., Mrs. Mary Wolter, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Harry (Freda) Smith, Fort Wayne.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday aththe Deal and Robbins Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. Frederick Yarger officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Huntington County Cancer Society.

Paul E. (Red) Kennedy, 70, 851 Ogan Ave., died at 9:30 a.m. Monday (May 7, 1984) at St. Joseph's Hospital, Fort Wayne. He had been seriously ill the past six months.

Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong resident of Huntington. He had been employed as a salesman for Portage Shoe Co., Milwaukee, Wis., for 36 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge, and a past member of the knights of Columbus. He was a 1932 graduate of Huntington High School.

Mr. Kennedy was born Sept. 28, 1913 in Huntington to Arwell and Lena Freedman Kennedy. His marriage was on Aug. 19, 1939 in St. Mary's Catholic Church to the former Dorothy M. Bell, who survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, John C. Kennedy, Huntington, and David L. Kennedy, Fort Wayne; a brother, Ray Kennedy, New Whiteland; two sisters, Helen Miller, Indianapolis, and Marie Catherine Buzzard, Huntington; and four grandchildren.

Two brothers, Eldon and John Kennedy, and three sisters, Ethel Street, Mildred Walters, and Sister M. Doretta Kennedy, are deceased.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hart Funeral home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Urbine officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial gifts to Huntington Home Health Care or the Cancer Society of Huntington County are preferred.
