Sharon L. Wiesen

Life Story

Of all the jobs, vocations, and callings in the world, there is none with more responsibility, none so fulfilling, and none demanding of love more than that of a mother. As mother of Christopher and Amy and husband of Howard, Sharon Wiesen devoted her life to the love of her family, and that of her friends.

In 1938, the tension around the world was building as Hitler marched into Austria and his Nazi army began the destruction of the Jews. Here in the United States, the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed establishing the minimum wage. But for parents Charles Russell and Anne (Faurot) Ford of Indianapolis, their focus was more local, their own household for that matter. On the 8th of July, 1938, they celebrated the birth of their only child, Sharon Lynn.

Growing up in Indianapolis, Sharon was active in the social life of her schools and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1956. She was friends with everyone. She shared the halls of Shortridge with Frank Anderson, Marion County Sheriff, local attorney Buddy Yosha, and Dan Burton, congressman from Indiana. As the chairperson of all her class reunions from the 5- year to the most recent, Sharon also helped organize other class gatherings throughout the years. After high school, Sharon attended Butler University to obtain her Bachelor's degree.

It was during high school that Sharon first met future husband, Howard C. Wiesen. However, it was not until after he returned from serving in the Air Force when he heard that Sharon was available and began to pursue her. When approached, she consented to a date; and it was only a year later that Sharon and Howard were married together on January 19, 1963, in the Northminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Karl Gilmeister. In light of low funds, there was no trip for the newlyweds. Rather, they enjoyed dinner together at the Hansel and Gretel Restaurant for their wedding reception with family and close friends.

After her children were older, Sharon worked part-time at a camera shop, as a local travel agent, and as a cashier at the Marsh Super Market. Without scanners, Sharon was the fastest item ringer in the store. Active with her church, Zionsville Presbyterian Church, she served on the bereavement committee and participated in SNIBS (Sunday Night Is Bible Study). Sharon also served her parish community as a Deacon, and on the Great Banquet Weekends and Reunion groups.

Sharon was also a member of the Tri Kappa Sorority, and contributed her time as a Girl Scout Leader during Amy's younger years. Sharon's other interests and hobbies included reading, fishing, traveling, and photography. Spending time on her pontoon, "Sharon's Decision", was also a favorite pastime at Geist. If she wasn't on her boat, Sharon would have loved to have been fishing in Birchwood, Wisconsin with Patty Bolz; playing bridge with friends like Jody Lamprey, Jan Yosha, Judy Goldstein, Charlotte Schuff, and Sandy Lacy; or in Florida at Ft. Myer's Beach, Sanibel and Captiva Islands with Carolyn and Chuck Elkins, and Dick and Anne Hebert. Sharon's favorite movie was "Gone With The Wind" and one of her favorite television shows was "Jeopardy". The family knew that while these were on TV, she was not to be interrupted under any circumstances! She helped care for the family poodles, Peppi and Muffin. Sharon loved to mail cards for birthdays, anniversaries, thinking of you, et. al. to many family and friends. She was very detailed and organized!

Sharon and Howard loved to go out to eat. Some of her favorite restaurants included, MCL at Castleton (mashed potatoes with gravy and iced tea), Fishers Cracker Barrel, Castleton Red Lobster, Castleton Grill (barbeque), and Marcos Restaurant. Her favorite foods included, "Butter and Sugar" as well as an iced cold Pepsi or iced cold glass of whole milk.

Although it was her family that mattered most to her, she included her close friends with her generous affection, support, love and care of her husband, her two children and their spouses, and her two grandchildren. It will be her love for her family and friends that will be most missed and will remain in their hearts and memories forever.

After a battle with cancer, Sharon Lynn (Ford) Wiesen died on Thursday, January 5, 2006. Sharon's family includes her husband of almost 43 years, Howard Wiesen and children Christopher P. (Brenda) Wiesen and Amy Elizabeth (Charles E.) Castle. Sharon was the grandmother to Matthew D. and Stephanie K. Wiesen.

Friends may visit with Sharon's family at the Leppert Life Story Funeral Home, Nora Chapel on Sunday, January 8, 2006 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. A Lifestory Service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Zionsville Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. Please visit Sharon's personal memory page at www.lifestorynet.com where you can share a memory, arrange for flowers or make a memorial contribution to the Zionsville Presbyterian Church.
